About Schuster Nutrition, PLLC

Hi! I'm Melissa Schuster, MS, RDN, CDN. I became a registered dietitian because I have a passion for helping others become their healthiest selves.

Throughout college and early adulthood, I was stressed. I graduated with honors as a double major in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Pennsylvania, and then completed Teach For America in NYC while simultaneously earning a Master's degree in education. To combat that stress, I turned to food - at first, I overly restricted as a means of control, and then I let go of that control and turned to food for comfort. I began running 100 miles per month, setting arbitrary goals as a way to measure my self-worth.

I finally had the epiphany that this was NOT healthy, and I was not happy! I realized that my background in psychology and education, plus my passion for (and obsession with) nutrition and health, made nutrition and dietetics a perfect career choice. I went back to school and completed three years of education and training to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a Master's in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics from New York University.

I understand that food is one part of our lives - it exists within our relationships, our stress management, our fitness, our sleep habits, our chronic and acute diseases. My personal experience and unique background allow me to work with my clients to meet them where they're at. I approach nutrition with an integrative and functional perspective, working to identify root causes and system imbalances and create collaborative solutions that fit my clients' lifestyles. I am a board-certified Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner, having completed a 2-year training with the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy (IFNA).

When I'm not working with clients, I love spending time with my husband and two children, teaching and doing yoga, going for a run or taking a spin class, cooking and recipe testing, traveling, reading (hello book club!), and relaxing with my friends and family.
